Daily Marine Patrols

Photo detail

At the Pohick Bay dock May 26, Fairfax County Marine Patrol Officer PFC Matthew Grubb gives a jet skier a summons for failing to display his registration properly. In addition, the operator received a warning because he did not have a certificate on hand to show that he had completed a boating safety course. “Our mission is safety, education, and enforcement,” said Grubb, a 10-year veteran of the FCPD. Routine operations of the Marine Patrol Unit include safety inspections of boats, spotting and addressing safety violations of boaters, checking boat registrations, BUI (boating under the influence) checkpoints, wake-enforcement – ensuring that boats are not speeding in no-wake zones, providing emergency response and assistance and coordinating with other emergency services on the water, and facilitating safety during high use periods on holidays.
