President Barack Obama made his first visit to Washington-Lee High School on Friday, May 4. The President and U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan met with three students and a parent of each for a roundtable discussion on the Stafford loan program and the students’ dreams of their futures. The participants included: Amirah Delwin and her stepmom Kezia Truesdale, Brendan Craig and his father Tim Craig and Rina Castaneda and her mom Elma Molina.
After the discussion, the President was ushered into the gymnasium to address the junior and senior class students. Each student was allowed to bring one parent to see and hear the President’s address. Approximately 1,175 people attended. The underclassmen watched the President’s address on the TV screens in their classrooms.
