Dear Editors:
I was pleased to read that the house in Fort Hunt Park was undergoing an “exterior stabilization” in the April 4 Mount Vernon Gazette. As someone who walks in the Park on a regular basis, I worried about the deteriorating condition of the property. However, I was disappointed to read that, after the project is completed, the house will not be open to the public or available for rent. It was unclear if the interior would be restored but it would make a wonderful, small Visitors Center to explain the fascinating history of the Park and a great addition to our Mount Vernon community.
