Mount Vernon High School students are getting ready for their spring musical, “The Addams Family,” written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, orchestrations by Larry Hochman, and based on characters created by Charles Addams.
The Addams Family is a musical comedy that tells a story about how Wednesday Addams (Jamaya Edwards) meets and falls in love with Lucus Beineke (Elliot Cooper). They want to get married but are worried they won’t be accepted by their families since they are so different. Lucus is nervous that he won’t get a blessing to marry Wednesday from her parents, Gomez Addams (James Gilliam) and Morticia Addams (Christine Mayen-Franco). The Beineke family, Mal Beineke (Micheal Hodges) and Alice Beineke (Juliet Pascoe), get invited to dinner at the Addams Family house, and that's when emotions and true feelings come out. The two families discover things about each other and themselves.
The actors aren’t the only students who are hard at work. We also have hard working technical crew students. Our amazing production team has been here every week after school and even on weekends to build, sew, paint, program, and more. Even though the show has a dark color scheme, this team has been keeping their spirits high and energy bright.
Since this is a musical, we also have a pit orchestra! The pit has been learning and playing their instruments to perfect the music for this show. Though they may be tired of some of the tunes by now, they are so glad they decided to join in on this amazing musical.
The cast, crew, and pit orchestra would like to thank Mrs. Shaw the director, Ms. Charlow the assistant director, Ms. Jones the choreographer, Ms. Huber the vocal director, and Mr. Garfield the pit orchestra director for helping get everyone to being the best that they can be. They have all helped the cast, crew, and pit so much and we are so grateful that we have such incredible support from these adult leaders.
The Addams Family will be at Mount Vernon High School’s Andrew Lee Pauley Theater (aka the Little Theatre, door 4) on April 25 and 26 at 7 pm, a matinee show on April 27 at 1 pm, and a final evening performance on April 27 at 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased online at mvhstheatrearts.com
